Criminal Defense: Jury Trials and Appeals
CHARGED WITH A CRIME? NO MATTER THE ALLEGATIONS, WHEN EVERYTHING IS ON THE LINE, YOU WANT A LAWYER WHO HAS BEEN THERE BEFORE. A LAWYER WHO LISTENS, PREPARES, and ACTS — not just REACTS.

I am in courtrooms all over Missouri, and see first-hand how accused people are treated. Our justice system can be an indifferent assembly line, treating clients with indifference, and certainly assuming they are guilty! People are held in jail before all the facts are known, often on the word of one witness. FIGHTING FOR YOU is not a cut-and-paste or one-size-fits-all task. The challenge of being an effective and successful criminal defense lawyer is making things personal. Finding out who YOU are. Listening to YOUR circumstances, educating the prosecutor, judge, and jury about YOU and YOUR case. I know the importance of ACTING, and not just REACTING. Proper PREPARATION, and preparing early, is key. This requires crime scene investigation, witness depositions, hiring expert witnesses, and ensuring that no fact is left uncovered. Criminal charges cause devastation and uncertainty–for the person charged and their families. You want a lawyer who sees around corners and anticipates what needs to be done. I have gone to trial dozens upon dozens of times in my career as a trial lawyer–and have won ACQUITTALS (“NOT-GUILTY” VERDICTS), DISMISSALS, AND LESSER CHARGES numerous times, including cases charging:
- Murder and Manslaughter
- Assault
- Robbery
- Burglary
- Stealing
- Drug possession
- Weapons offenses
Every case is different, but past successful performance unquestionably has an impact on a lawyer’s ability to negotiate future cases. Credibility–with prosecutors and with judges–matters every time I agree to defend a criminal case.
